We’ve all seen vloggers touting their YouTube play buttons around, showing the world their latest accomplishment. And if you are reading this, you’re probably wondering how you too can get your own YouTube play button.
The criteria are straight forward. The main condition is that you have reached a specific subscriber milestone.
The four play buttons are awarded at the following points:
- Silver – once you have 100,000 subscribers
- Gold – once you have 1,000,000 subscribers
- Diamond – once you have 10,000,000 subscribers
- Custom Play Button – once you have 50 million subscribers
These, however, are not the only criteria. YouTube has also stated that in addition to meeting those subscriber counts, creators must also follow further guidelines. They state that the awards will be given out at their discretion and that they will only recognise creators who follow their guidelines.
What Could Prevent You Getting Your YouTube Play Button?
YouTube’s play buttons are no longer being automatically distributed to creators upon reaching subscriber milestones. Instead, YouTube is reviewing each channel before issuing the reward.
Creators who therefore don’t meet the below criteria, may not receive their button.
- The YouTube account must be in “good standing”
- There must not be any copyright strikes on the account
- The account must not have violated YouTube’s Community Guidelines
- YouTube accounts must follow YouTube’s Terms of Service
- Channels must be creating original content
Some creators are also reporting that they are not receiving their play button due to the nature of their content. Some negative, horror, and far-right commentators are reportedly not receiving the plaques at YouTube’s discretion.
If over three weeks have passed since you reached a subscriber milestone and you have not received a notification from YouTube on your creator dashboard, YouTube suggests reaching out to their creator support team.
How To Get The Silver YouTube Play Button
If you are about to reach 100,000 subscribers – congratulations! You will soon be eligible for your first YouTube play button.
To get your silver play button, you just need to wait for YouTube to reach out via your creator dashboard. Within about a week of reaching 100,000 subscribers, they will review your channel and send you a notification.
Your notification will include a code that you can use to redeem your play button on the creator rewards redemption website. After redeeming the code, you will need to sit back and relax. While YouTube claims that the play button will arrive within 3 weeks, many YouTubers claim that it takes much longer.
When Will You Get The Silver Play Button?
YouTubers should receive their silver play button within 6 weeks of reaching 100,000 subscribers. Upon reaching the subscriber milestone YouTube will provide a play button redemption code to the creator via their creator dashboard. From there, the creator just needs to redeem the code and wait for shipping.
